Sally Clayton sees Westlife play their final gig in the Capital as their farewell tour edges ever closer to the end

After 14 years, and just as many UK number-one singles, Westlife is calling it a day and is edging every closer to the end of the guys’ farewell tour.

It was an emotional evening at the O2 Arena as Shane, Nicky, Kian, and Mark played their last-ever London gig to thousands of excited fans on Thursday night.

The band, known for their ballads, had everyone on their feet singing along from the outset with the opener What About Now.

What Makes a Man and My Love followed, but—noticeably, and rather dispassionately—their infamous high stools were missing from the stage.

In a change of pace, the Irish foursome performed a medley of more upbeat cover song,s which included I Gotta Feeling by Black Eyed Peas, Don’t Cha by the Pussycat Dolls and Robbie Williams’ Let Me Entertain You—a rather random mix but something that still went down well with the fans.

Inexplicably, Westlife danced their way through many of their songs—something that reminded me of a cross between Jersey Boys and a school production of Grease.

The concert featured emotional video clips of the boys talking about life after Westlife, and each member took the time to thank the fans and the people who had helped them over the years.

As the evening rose to its highest point, the group performed all their classic songs including Mandy, Swear It Again and Uptown Girl, which featured an unusual dubstep twist.

The curtain came down on the night as they finished with Flying Without Wings—the final song a London crowd will ever hear from the boys.

About Brian

Hi, I’m Brian! Welcome to the Mark Feehily FanListing! I have been a Westlife Fan from the beginning, and Mark is—of course—my favorite member of Westlife. I live in Ireland and work in I.T.. Apart from Westlife, my other favorite music includes Within Temptation, Good Charlotte, Madonna, Kylie, ABBA, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, and KISS. As someone who’s loved Westlife from the beginning, I run the Mark Feehily FanListing. Unfortunately, I don’t know Mark—I’m only a fan, like you. However, if you do find problems with the site (eg, a broken link), you can send an Email to markfeehily.net. Just add Brian before the @ sign. Thank you for your help and cooperation. Brian.
